FAQ
Emsculpt is the first ever body sculpting and muscle building device using high intensity electromagnetic energy.
There is only one kind of Emsculpt, but it is FDA cleared to be used on different areas, specifically the abdominals, buttocks, arms, calves, and thighs.
You may want Emsculpt if you:
- Want to supplement your fitness routine
- Are in good health and near your goal weight
- Are suffering from diastasis recti (separation of the abdominal muscles) following pregnancy
- Have realistic expectations
- Do not have magnetic implants near the treatment area
Emsculpt is not a weight loss procedure. Patients who are overweight will not likely achieve optimal results.
During your consultation, Dr. Rosing will start by asking about your goals for the procedure and what specifically you would like to change about your appearance and why. Dr. Rosing will examine you and discuss your best treatment options to achieve your desired results. In doing so, he may suggest additional changes or an alternative procedure if that better suits your goals. He will share before and after photographs of his work and set realistic expectations. He will also complete a full medical history, evaluate your current health, and make note of any prescriptions or supplements you take and whether you smoke. He will then review all of the possible risks of the surgery and a complete breakdown of the cost.
No anesthesia at all is required for Emsculpt.
Emsculpt is an outpatient procedure and is performed at our Newport Beach office.
During a treatment session, the Emsculpt device paddles are placed on top of the muscle group being targeted and secured in place with a band. The Emsculpt device then sends high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy through the skin, which stimulates three phases of muscle contractions (called supramaximal contractions) that gradually increase in intensity. In one 30-minute treatment session, Emsculpt will cause the muscles in the targeted area to contract 20,000 times. These supramaximal contractions strengthen muscle fibers and trigger a process called lipolysis, the body’s way of breaking down and disposing of fat cells. The end result is a more toned, defined, and slimmer appearance.
Expect to feel tingles and zaps that increase in intensity but are not unbearably painful.
One Emsculpt treatment session is 30 minutes, and you will need a minimum of 4 sessions. Dr. Rosing will create a treatment plan tailored to your specific goals.
You may experience some muscle soreness.
There is no recovery time following Emsculpt.
No.
The muscle mass gained from Emsculpt is not permanent. Results last at least 6 months or longer if you continue to exercise and maintain your weight.
Emsculpt is a completely non-invasive treatment, and there are very few associated risks. In rare instances, excessive stress on the muscles may result in a hernia.
No. Insurance companies do not cover the costs of Emsculpt. Make sure you ask your health insurance company about its policies and whether having Emsculpt will affect your coverage in any way. Some insurance companies may raise your premiums after you get a cosmetic procedure, and, in some instances, getting Emsculpt affects future coverage. If your plan won’t cover treatment for any complications from cosmetic procedures, you may want to consider getting a supplemental insurance policy.
